Coast Guard looks to renovate and expand Seattle base to support operations.
The U.S. Coast Guard is proposing the renovation and expansion of its Seattle waterfront base to support an increase in the presence of the U.S. in the Arctic region. Pacific Northwest and polar missions currently run out of the aging hub.
The Federal Register shows one option for the base makeover that would triple the acreage of the Coast Guard along the Seattle waterfront, making room for a modern icebreaker fleet.
“We understand the concerns associated with such a major endeavor. We are committed to working with stakeholders, and the public through the environmental planning process to hear and address those concerns,” said Coast Guard spokesperson Lieutenant Russ Tippets.
